People from all around were warmly invited to join us for our VERY FIRST Southampton Bright Club, where researchers shared enthusiasm for their work in a relaxed and comical way. We were joined by the hilariously funny Joe Hart and Iszi Lawrence at the Avondale House!

Our featured researchers were:

James Dyke – “Don’t Fear the Redback Spider” – James is an academic researching sustainability science in the School of Geography, University of Southampton
Jess Spurrell – “Cryogenics and Superconductivity” – Jess is a PhD student at the Southampton Institute of Cryogenics and manager of the Talk to US! Public Engagement project hosted by the Southampton Education School.


Dave Christensen – Stem Cells – Dave recently finished his PhD in embryonic stem cell metabolism and is now a research technician.
Jen Gupta – astrophysics – Jen is currently based in the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation at the University of Portsmouth.
Nikhil Mistry –Bubbles and Underwater Acoustics – Nikhil is a PhD student at the Institute of Sound & Vibration Research (ISVR) in the University of Southampton.
